Collaboration and cooperation are important elements of teamwork. Another essential element of a solid team is also having someone to help guide the process - someone to delegate. It doesn't matter which role you play on the team, whether you're the one delegating or being delegated to, there are a few things to keep in mind to help everyone be successful.
When you are delegating keep this in mind:
Instead of feeling empowered to complete a project, the receiver may feel like they're being dumped on, make sure you:
When you are being delegated to, keep this in mind:
It's important you understand the project or task you are being assigned, make sure you:
Keep in mind these tips aren't all for professional gain, they work at home too. Also, never be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and volunteer for a project you want to be involved in.
Delegation can help everyone better manage their time, plus the improved communication not only helps you better engage with your peers, but it can also boost morale and the success of your overall team.
]]>3. Your Heart – Have you ever walked away from lunch with a friend with a full stomach and a full heart? Sometimes life is too serious, we have too many pressures and simply taking time to laugh with a friend, our family, as well as our co-workers can completely reenergize us. Focus on your relationships.
4. Your Soul – Did you hear the birds singing this morning? Have you noticed the vibrant colors of the season all around you? Who did you smile at today? When was the last time you blasted your favorite song on the way to work? Maybe you are an artist, a woodworker or you simply like to color with your kids. Being intentional about noticing the things around you and taking time to be present in the moment not only helps you connect to yourself and others it assures you that you’re not missing out.
"We must never be too busy to take time to sharpen the saw." - Stephen Covey
Sharpening your saw can help you generate growth, relieve stress, increase focus and create change in both your personal and professional life. We aren’t suggesting you make a checklist and do everything stated above, what we are saying is make time for yourself, even if it’s ten minutes a day, it’s time well spent investing in YOU.
]]>So, what’s the harm in avoiding the conversation, it will work itself out, right? Wrong. Avoidance is a sure-fire way to make a problem worse, it leads to dysfunction and in business it can impact morale, productivity, and turnover.
We want to challenge you to think differently about what this conversation is all about, let’s view it as an opportunity to help someone or to give them feedback, instead of a dreaded conversation. Here are a few steps to take to help you prepare:
1. Think through the conversation - How will you start the discussion, what’s your intent and the desired outcome? By the way, a great way to start a difficult conversation is to say, “Help me understand...”
2. Practice, Practice, Practice – The more you talk through the conversation out loud in front of a mirror or someone to help coach you, the more relaxed and comfortable you’ll be in the actual conversation.
3. Schedule the meeting – Assure you find a spot to meet that’s quiet, with no distractions.
4. Use empathy – Put yourself in the other person’s shoes, as you try to understand where they are coming from in the situation, it helps us better understand.
5. Don’t make assumptions – You are upset because Jim keeps missing deadlines, you assume he’s lazy, when in reality he may have important priorities, you know nothing about, that keep him from getting other work completed.
6. Forget the need to be right – This is key. The conversation should NOT be about you proving a point or teaching someone a lesson, it’s about resolving an issue and doing the right thing.
7. LISTEN – Listen to understand, don’t listen to respond.
8. Ask questions – Your goal is to better understand the situation.
No matter what the situation, being intentional about having a difficult conversation helps you be proactive, and it helps you build trust and respect with the other person. We can’t guarantee every conversation will go perfectly, but we can say if you keep your focus on having a simple, productive conversation, you can’t lose.
Different Ways to Contribute (Versus Complaining)
When it comes to creating a positive workplace culture, it’s important to remember that complaints can lead to solutions. So next time you’re tempted to complain, remember Simon Sinek’s quote and focus on the solution instead, and take action by following one (or multiple) of the steps below.
It's easy to get stuck in a rut of complaining and viewing challenges as insurmountable obstacles. But the truth is that there are always opportunities to contribute, learn and grow in any situation. While voicing frustrations is sometimes necessary to make progress, it should never be the only approach. Find ways to contribute and use each challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. Celebrate the fact that you're not just complaining, you're actively creating positive change. In the end, this will lead to a more productive, collaborative, and healthier work environment.
If you are looking for more resources to help you excel in your work environment, or to help your team grow with the mindset of contributing to problem-solving, versus complaining, get in touch with us today.
]]>What is Time Management?
Time management is the process of organizing and planning how to divide your time between specific activities. Good time management allows you to accomplish more in a shorter period of time, which leads to more free time, and even higher productivity. Time management is especially important for those with a lot on their plate, such as parents, entrepreneurs, busy professionals, students - really, all of us.
The Benefits of Time Management
The benefits of time management are all about getting the most out of the time you have and making sure that you’re not overwhelmed by the task at hand. With good time management skills, you can use your time more effectively to reach your goals and get more done each day. Here are some of the many benefits of time management:
Time management is an essential skill to have and with it comes a variety of benefits. You’ll be able to prioritize tasks better, reduce stress levels, increase productivity, and focus on what really matters. Start managing your time more wisely today and enjoy all of the benefits that come with it!
How to Manage Your Time More Effectively
When we look at our days, it’s easy to see that procrastination, distraction, and feeling overwhelmed can all have a major impact on how we use our time. Here are a few ideas to help you buy back some time.
Time management takes practice, but keep trying! If you are looking for more ways to manage your time or for some guidance and coaching, Marcia & Sherry would love to get in touch and discuss how Lead to Inspire can help you invest in yourself, your people or grow your business. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Our goal each day is simply to be better today than we were yesterday. We're not going to lie, it's harder some days than others, we don’t have it all figured out, but we continue to learn, and we only hope that our journey can help others in some way. Our anniversary gift to each one of you is to share our top four game-changers.
It is so easy to get caught in the hamster wheel of life…you know, doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. When we realized we couldn’t do it all, because, we can't, it made all the difference. We put too much pressure on ourselves, society has told us we have to be perfect and that’s not only untrue, it’s also impossible! The game-changer for us was when we realized we need to BE INTENTIONAL and BE PRESENT.
We give ourselves permission to say no to the things that don’t excite us, which intentionality gives us more time to focus on the things and the people we love. We’re also intentional about not allowing our “to do” lists to overrun our days. By being more strategic, we’re able to WORK SMARTER.
We thought we were “being present” with our time and attention as we played board games with our kids or had conversations with our spouses. However, we realized we were often checking email or working through the next project in the middle of either activity, sometimes out of necessity, other times out of habit. How often do you carry your work home?
What helped us shift our thinking was continually asking ourselves - 10 years from now, will I be happy I spent an hour working on this presentation at home or playing catch with my kids? Each day is a gift and we only 24 hours, be intentional with how you use them and be present so you can CAPTURE EVERY MEMORY.
Lead to Inspire looks different today than it did four years ago, in fact, it looks different today than it did two or three years ago. We continually fine-tune the services and products we offer to fit our partners because we FOCUS ON SOLVING A SPECIFIC PROBLEM FOR A SPECIFIC GROUP OF PEOPLE. This game-changer helps us realize we are not the right partner for everyone, and we don’t have to be experts in everything. That focus helps us feel more accomplished at the end of the day because we know we add a lot more value when we partner with the right people on the right things.
Henry Ford said, “if you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right”. MINDSET is everything! Many days are hard, but the game-changer we’ve found is the mindset you bring to the table has more influence on your success than the skills you possess! Think about the things you haven’t done or even tried for fear of failing. Now, if those same opportunities were presented and you knew you couldn't fail, what would you do? We’ve truly learned more from our FAILURES than any of our SUCCESSES, plus we know at least we tried. Our stubbornness…umm we mean competitiveness, helps us continue to move forward. It’s okay if you stumble as long as you learn from it. It’s also okay if you need to step back and adjust your mindset, just don’t forget to keep moving forward.
We will forever DREAM BIG, WORK HARD, STAY FOCUSED AND SURROUND OVERSELVES WITH GOOD PEOPLE. At the end of the day, we each get one life to live! Dream big, work hard to achieve those dreams and surround yourself with people that elevate you, the ones you enjoy spending time with. It may not always be easy but…it is that simple!
At Lead to Inspire we are forever blessed by the amazing people that surround us and we cannot say THANK YOU enough for lifting us up and supporting us as we turned this BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) into a reality! Cheers to the next 4 years!
]]>As essential employees, National OnDemand crews haven’t missed a beat, working each day to bring not just a lifeline of internet services to students now homeschooling, but providing lifesaving services to health care and other professionals who need to do their jobs from home. National OnDemand teams are also laying new groundwork to provide cable and internet services to rural areas that have never had that opportunity.
Imagine… in the middle of this crisis there is opportunity. An opportunity to help others, to grow personally and professional and to build a stronger team. From the National OnDemand corporate office, to each hub in the company footprint, you will find an extension of the essential employee.
In the middle of all the crazy, we sometimes forget to reflect on all we have to be grateful. Across the United States people can continue moving forward, or at least be distracted for a bit because of the services and opportunity the National OnDemand family provides.
Lead to INSPIRE wants to take this time to say we are grateful for our continued partnership with National OnDemand. Through each Leader we work with, we see firsthand the difference they make each day. This amazing team not only deserves a pat on the back for staying the course and staying focused in these unprecedented times, but a heartfelt THANK YOU! They are proof, we are in this together.

On February 18th, 2020, which now seems like a lifetime ago, Lead to Inspire was honored to speak at a Women’s Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Making the drive into Lincoln that morning, we talked about various topics, one of which was something we’d never heard of before, Coronavirus. When we stopped for gas the Omaha World-Herald headline reflected the situation, 13 people were quarantined at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Hmmm, interesting, we’ll have to do more research on that one, and then our conversation moved to other things.
Arriving at the conference, our focus for the 200 women in the room was Living and Working with Intention. We talked about how much pressure we put on ourselves to be perfect, to be all things to all people at home and at work. We challenged the group to not fear failure, to realize NO ONE is perfect and to be empowered by saying NO to the things that clutter our lives. We also talked about how sometimes our “best laid plans” get uprooted but when everything seems to be falling apart, how we react to the situation makes all the difference.
Wow, how many times in the past few weeks has the universe wreaked havoc on our plans? It’s happening daily, if not hourly, our lives are changing amid the Coronavirus crisis. So how are we reacting, individually, as a family, as a community, as a nation? The crazy world we’re living in today can either pull us down or keep us focused on the fact we need to adjust and live life on purpose. How do we continue to move forward in a time of crisis?
1. Focus on what we can control
2. Be educated
3. Help build a stronger community
4. Have faith
Let’s move forward, together, whether you have the title of “Leader” isn’t important, what matters is how we react to what’s happening around us. It’s about helping others, knowing although our normal today, is anything but normal, if we stay focused on living life with intention and focus on what we can control, we can’t go wrong.

Let’s CELEBRATE! Three years ago, we took a leap of faith, walked away from our corporate jobs and Lead to Inspire was born!
It’s amazing how many people we’ve spoken with since that day, some envy our ability to start this adventure and aspire to do the same, there are those who think it’s great but they have no desire to leave the corporate world and then there are some who simply think we’re crazy. Perhaps we are, it depends on the day! Starting our own business has been an AMAZING journey, but it’s also been anything but easy.
We had a vision when we launched our dream and as any good leadership team does, we’ve adjusted our focus along the way. To paraphrase the words of Nelson Mandela, we never lose, we either win or learn. At Lead to Inspire, we’ve found success, won some, but we’ve also learned so much! No matter what the circumstances, our vision has never wavered from our true goal of wanting to INSPIRE others and celebrate individuals, no matter where they are in their personal and professional growth journey.
As we all learn and grow, it’s important to remember what applies to your professional life, usually applies to life in general:
Since YOU are in charge of your own destiny, what are you doing to make your dreams, and your vision come true? To mark our anniversary, we want to help you Manifest your Future, we want to help you follow your dreams big or small. We’ve put together a simple, downloadable workbook to help you move from dreaming to doing by creating a vision board, check it out at https://leadtoinspire.net/collections/all
Life is short, embrace your future and be Inspired!

As small business owners ourselves, we know it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day of running your company, there is a lot of ground to cover and most believe if we hire the right people, our client experience will be amazing. The problem is, simply hiring the right people doesn’t automatically make that happen, and you don’t have time to sit in on every client interaction. That’s why, with your team in place, you need a client experience plan, then you’ll want to train your team to execute. When your entire organization, whether it’s 3 people or 300, are focused on the same target or bullseye, you take out the guess work and you all execute the same plan. All the sudden, amazing things happen for your clients, your employees and ultimately your business.
Bottom line for your business, research suggests that customers who have a very good experience, are three and a half times more likely to make additional purchases than if they have a very poor experience. And if someone has a bad experience, 30% of them tell the company, 50% tell their friends, 15% provide feedback on a ratings site and 14% tweet about it. One bad review won’t kill your business but if it happens often enough, it will cut into your profits.
With expectations set for your employees, they not only know what’s expected of them they know what they should to do for customers, and that’s where the magic can happen. We’ve seen an energy created within employees, they are excited about their work, and that shows in how they treat the customer and how the customer experiences your business.
If you believe your business has room to grow but aren’t sure where to start in building out a Client Experience plan, you are certainly not alone, but you are in luck! One way we are celebrating our 2nd anniversary at Lead to Inspire is by launching an e-guide, a simple 10-step plan to help business owners create RAVING FANS through client experience! Find your step by step e-guide right here on our site. Our plan will walk you through exactly what you should do to create and implement your Client Experience plan. What do you have to lose? We can’t wait to hear your successes!

Have you ever sabotaged your own idea before allowing it to grow, simply because it wasn’t big enough or important enough? Keep in mind, not every idea has to appeal to a national audience, even ideas on a smaller scale, maybe it’s a work around or a new way of thinking through a project, are all ideas worth trying or at least talking through, even when someone says, “we’ve always done it that way.”
The risk of failure is often what holds us back from moving forward with an idea. That’s when it’s important to step outside our comfort zone and realize a new idea is sometimes worth the risk, especially when reminded how much we can learn from our mistakes versus our successes. What have you learned from your misses? And how good did it feel when you succeeded? Thomas Edison’s quote offers great perspective, “I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Can you imagine his day in and day out process to invent the light bulb? He saw failure only as an opportunity to learn and grow.
What’s holding you back from moving forward with new ideas, your vision for how something could be done better? Maybe you don’t feel your idea is important enough to offer. You don’t have time to figure it all out, it’s complicated, there are components outside of your expertise. Look around you, if your idea can mainstream something you and your peers do day in and day out, maybe it will help with efficiencies or will solve an issue with one of your top customers, isn’t that worth some time? Part of your growth as a leader is to be a visionary, even if you can’t figure out the 10,000-foot view, you can team up with others who do think bigger picture to help evolve your idea. If you are the big picture thinker, then reach out for input from those on the ground.
So, what are you waiting for, you have a great team around you, pitch your idea to one or a few of them, once the conversation gets started, you just might find they have an area of expertise you need to move the idea forward. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Growth personally and professionally isn’t always about a job well done, it’s also about having the confidence to learn along the way and make yourselves a bit vulnerable. Chances are John Adams had no idea the idea he had would make such a big bang, all these years later across the country.
]]>With the launch of Lead to INSPIRE in 2016, our plan was simple, help organizations and leaders be more effective in the “People Business”. Our focus with leaders, develop skills and strategies to help them and their teams be more effective. And for Client and Employee EXPERIENCE, partner with businesses, to help build plans that ensure continued growth and success. Our intention at launch was to simultaneously build our online business, but creating content, marketing, selling and training, we had little time left to develop our online solutions.
Research shows many small to medium sized business owners are looking for affordable, quality, self-paced products, online. Since our content and tools are created, it's a natural fit to tweak our business model, allowing us to work smarter and shift our focus to Lead to INSPIRE's online solutions. We feel the shift in our business model is not only a win for us, but for our current and future clients, as well.
Lead to INSPIRE continues to be dedicated to helping business owners create an amazing Client Experience, helping emerging, new or tenured leaders through 1-1 Coaching, sharing our ideas on team building, time management and effective communication as we look forward to more public speaking events.
As we try to live our own lives with more INTENTION, our new business model makes sense and allows us to take a breath and continue to grow our dream of helping others. In fact, you will see our first online products hit our website soon, so STAY TUNED and THANK YOU for all your support since our launch!
Whether you see a need in your own business to work on or tweak one step or all ten, it's important to start the process and then continue to look for more ways to enhance your customers experience. If your customer experience is CRAZY GOOD, not only will your customers come back again, but they will tell all their friends and family, too! And we have NO DOUBT these things will have a direct impact on your bottom line! Win-Win!

Scenario 1: You send an email requesting something of a team member or peer, their response is short and to the point. You read the email several times and don't understand why your coworker is so upset over this. You stew about it, ask another coworker their opinion. Stop. What's wrong with this picture, besides lost productivity? Could you have misinterpreted the email? Did you pick up the phone or have a face to face conversation with this coworker to talk through the situation, to clarify? If you had, chances are, that person is not upset, he just didn't think through how he phrased his response.
Scenario 2: You're assigned a project and tackle it head on, you complete the project ahead of schedule and are proud to present it to your leaders. You quickly find out the project you poured everything into the past 4 weeks doesn't work how the client needs it to or isn't what your leader wanted, and you need to start over. Now you're angry over time wasted and wonder why they didn't tell you more information before starting the project. Stop. What's wrong with this picture? What's your responsibility in this project? Did you ask enough questions to fully understand the scope of work before starting the project? Would it have helped to update your leader on progress at any point during your work? It comes down to communication, even though the leader's goal is to set you up for success, it's our own responsibility to communicate more openly instead of assuming we know what they wanted.
Scenario 3: A peer remarks about your way of doing something and has a better idea of how it can be done. It's easy to take things personally, no matter what your role, and for some that triggers a shutdown, I'm offended and caught off guard, so I retreat to the safety of my workspace. Stop. What's wrong with this picture? Yes, there are times someone criticizes instead of offering more constructive feedback, but you must ask yourself if you are open to feedback. Are you open to improving, looking at a different way of doing things, or at least discussing the idea? Is your co-worker or leader just trying to help? When you're giving feedback, always be aware of how you come across. When you are receiving feedback, try and keep an open mind, because most of the time someone is simply trying to help.
If you find yourself growling at what you "think" is a threat, be intentional and ask yourself a few simple questions:
Simple questions that not only save you time and help you improve yourself, but questions that will help you quickly realize, most of your perceived threats are truly just crumpled up blankets on a chair.

#1 Work-Life Balance - After years of striving to achieve the perfect work-life balance, talking about it with colleagues, friends, even changing professions thinking it would help, it's taken an adjustment in my thought process about work-life balance. I now simply strive for BALANCE! Each day is a gift, my goal is to spend as much time with my family as possible, that day. Some days it aligns better than others, but realizing it will never be a perfect balance, allows me to make the most of my time, whether at home or leading others.
#2 Be Present - When you get those moments to spend time with loved ones or as a leader are working with your team, be available to them. Close your email, push away from your desk or simply put your phone on silent and turn your attention to the people in front of you. There is nothing that can build a relationship like face to face conversation. An added bonus, your leading by example. As your team, peers and your family see you more tuned in and focused, they are more likely to follow your lead.
#3 Take time for you - You deserve to take a break. Take time to refocus and recharge mentally and physically, as frequently as you can. Think about a regular exercise routine or a simple walk around the block in the middle of the day to get away from your desk. Don't forget the importance of connecting with friends, plan a night out with friends or date night with your significant other. Whatever you do, even if it's simply taking 5 minutes for meditation, it is a great start to finding a better you.
When you are intentional about taking time for yourself and spending quality time with others, you walk away a better person, a better leader. A leader who is refocused and re-energized to tackle whatever is thrown your way.

The same holds true in leadership. What you do, day in and day out is being observed and mimicked whether you realize it or not. As a leader, you set the tone. Your team is looking to you for guidance, to know what is acceptable and what is not allowed. Guess what, if you cut corners, don't show respect or don't follow through on what's promised, your team sees that as acceptable and will do one of three things:
It seems any of these options are a lose-lose situation because eventually those same actions are passed on to other teammates and eventually your customers.
As a leader, be intentional and consistent with your actions, set a positive tone, because in turn, it is laying the foundation for a more positive culture. Here's how you start or restart if needed:
Whether it's my son refilling a simple water bottle or a team member going above and beyond to "wow" a customer, both are examples of how consistent positive actions will prompt positive reactions. Actions really do speak louder than words.

Since our launch, we've been told numerous times, we're different, in a good way. We immediately dug into that statement for more feedback and found there are two key differentiators to our business:
We feel blessed with what we get to do each day. Throughout this adventure, we've strategized many things and what we know is, whether you are focused on leadership, team engagement or client experience you have to be intentional about the little things. That's what will make the difference. Here are a few rules we live by, rules we feel set us and Lead to Inspire apart.
Rule #1 - Step outside your comfort zone, when you get uncomfortable, that's where growth (a.k.a. the magic) happens.
Rule #2 - Be true to yourself. Who you are, shouldn't change depending on who is in the room.
Rule #3 - Do the right thing, not the easy thing. Always be nice and respectful to others.
Rule #4 - Look people in the eye. Look up from your phone, be confident in yourself and communicate face to face with people.
Rule #5 - Don't fear failing. You generally learn and grow more from your failures than your successes. Think about it.
Rule #6 - Ask for feedback, we believe Champions eat FEEDBACK for breakfast. You only grow when you're open to new ideas or a different way of thinking.
Rule #7 - Take the time to say Thank You. Two words that have a powerful impact in all areas of our life, Thank You.
Rule #8 - Celebrate being different. We love it when people say we're different, set yourself apart in a positive way, be genuine, be real, embrace the fact you're learning and growing every day.

Mental clutter is a thing. It's when the mind has too many thoughts racing around, making it difficult to process anything. So, while you know how to clean a closet, where do you even start to declutter your mind? Here are six basic steps that have helped us jump start the cleaning process. Begin with a deep breath, then:
If six steps seem too overwhelming, simply start with the one step you believe will make the biggest impact on your day to day. Once you've mastered that step, you can add another. Who knows, maybe that one step will clear enough space for a more peaceful night's sleep. Happy dreams!

2. Ask your team member “What steps did you take to make this project successful today?”
3. Tell your team member, “This project I am asking you to do will be challenging, but I believe you can do it.”
4. Ask your team member “What can we learn from our competition on this”?
5. Challenge a team member to live out of their comfort zone. Growth happens when we step out of our comfort zone and push ourselves to do different things.
These 5 discussions will challenge your team member to think for themselves, encouraging their growth and development. Development isn’t just the highest calling of leadership, it is the answer to your companies continued success.
